Meet Piah
Hello and welcome!
My name is Piah, and I’m the person behind Sandbox Nursery, where care meets creativity. Sandbox Nursery is a Reggio-inspired, Montessori, play-based daycare nursery based in Culver City, California.
With over 15 years of hands-on experience, I’ve had the joy and privilege of supporting young children through their most formative years in a nurturing, creative, and child-centered environment.
Why I Created the Care I Couldn't Find
My journey into early childhood education began in a very personal way—when I became a mother. As I searched for a daycare that aligned with the values I wanted for my son, I found myself disappointed by what was available. This experience sparked an “aha” moment: if I couldn’t find the kind of care I wanted, maybe I could create it.
I dove into research, gained experience working in both daycare and preschool settings, and studied Introduction to Early Care and Education at Santa Monica College. In time, I opened Sandbox Nursery—a space designed to support children’s natural curiosity, creativity, and developmental growth through meaningful play.
From Makeup Brushes to Storytime
Before entering the world of child care, I had a very different career. I grew up in Manhattan Beach and spent time living in both Argentina and Italy. In my earlier years, I studied makeup at Sunset Gower Studios and worked as a professional makeup artist. I also have a background in photography, which continues to inspire my work—parents often tell me they love the beautifully captured moments I share from our daily activities.

Introducing Sandbox On-the-Go
Sandbox Nursery Sensory Art Play On-the-Go:
a mobile sensory art experience for children 8 months to 3 years old. This new chapter allows me to bring our signature creative, nature-based, sensory-rich experiences directly into families’ homes, while still rooted in the philosophies that have guided me for years.
